The short answer
This research does not establish that titanium cutting boards never dull knives, or that one of the three boards preserves edges better than the others. The reviewed material contains seller claims, but no matched, independently verified edge-retention results for these exact products.
What “knife-friendly” leaves unanswered
Before accepting the phrase, ask what it means in the seller's test. Which knife was used? What food was cut? How many cutting cycles were performed? Was sharpness measured before and after? What surface was used for comparison? A claim without a method cannot reliably tell you how the board will treat your own knife.
Do not use a scratch test as a knife-wear test
A board looking unmarked does not establish that the blade stayed sharp. A photograph cannot show the full state of a cutting edge. A useful comparison would evaluate the blade itself as well as the board, with consistent tools, cutting conditions and measurements.
What a meaningful test would look like
A credible product comparison would use equivalent blades with documented starting sharpness, repeated cutting tasks, consistent force and a stated sharpness measurement. It would record both edge damage and changes in cutting performance. Repeated trials would help distinguish a consistent result from a one-off outcome.
This is a proposed evidence standard, not a test performed by this publication.
What to ask about an integrated sharpener
A built-in sharpener is a separate tool from the cutting surface. Ask which blade geometries, edge angles and knife materials it supports. Check the knife maker's guidance before using a fixed-angle or pull-through device, particularly with specialty blades.
A board including a sharpener does not prove that its surface reduces wear. Evaluate the accessory and the cutting face separately.
Questions for your own setup
- Does the knife manufacturer recommend or exclude particular board surfaces?
- Is the seller's compatibility guidance written down?
- Can you return the board if the cutting feel does not suit you?
- Is the working area large enough to use your knife comfortably?
The practical conclusion
If knife preservation is your first priority, seek product-specific evidence and advice from your knife manufacturer. Avoid buying on an absolute promise of “no dulling.” Read the TIBO Cutting Board review and Tivano review for the offer-specific questions.
